Lakeland's Academic team opened their season at Fremont. There were 7 schools and 10 teams at the competition. The Science team of Ethan Marchand, Kylo Sturgis, Noah Tropp & Laney Wilson took 1st and had the highest overall meet score of the night with 20/25 questions correct. The English team of Laney Wilson, Shakhti Ramachandran, Hannah Barrick & Elly Wahl placed 2nd. The Social Studies team placed 3rd, and our second English team fell just short of 3rd place in a tie breaker. Nice job Lakers!

An incident involving a car backfiring was called in to law enforcement as shots fired at Jr/Sr High. Law enforcement responded quickly, and were at their highest level of alert as they investigated. Safety protocols were followed. Students were not in danger. Again, we thank our local law enforcement for their quick action to keep Lakers safe!
LaGrange County Emergency Management has notified me that the Winter Weather Advisory will now start at 4pm. In order to keep our Lakers safe, we are cancelling all after school activities for this afternoon. We would like to get all of our students and staff home before travel gets too messy. This weather front is scheduled to bring us freezing rain, resulting in a quarter inch of ice. This could cause power issues in our community, along with hazardous travel. Stay Safe Lakers!
Please congratulate our DECA District winners:

Zulema Nieves-Carmona--3rd Place, Retail Merchandising

Due to slick conditions, Lakeland School Corporation is on a 2 hour delay today 1-18-24. This will give our drivers, both bus & young drivers, some daylight to help navigate the icy roads. I know this is an inconvenience, but I would rather be safe than sorry!
Just a reminder that Wednesday, January 17th is a scheduled 2 hour delay for professional development. Usually the preschools do not follow this schedule, but tomorrow they will also delay. All buildings will open at 9:45 am. Staff should report at normal time.
